Updated, state-of-the-art recording, dubbing, editing and mastering facility opened in April 1969 as a replacement for the earlier RCA Studios, Chicago. There were 3 studios (1, 2, and 3). Major recording acts both on and outside RCA cut records there, and many custom clients (namely Motown and Ovation Records) and artists (such as Curtis Mayfield) used these facilities for various services from recording to disc mastering.
Engineers included Roger Anfinsen. Among the mastering engineers employed at the "Mid-America Recording Center" were Randy Kling and Don Holden, who would later relocate to RCA's Nashville and Hollywood studios, respectively, after this studio closed.
RCA's Chicago studios closed on April 26, 1972. A few months later, the facilities were taken over by Curtom Studios.
