US record company founded in 1976 by Curtis Mayfield and Marv Stuart. Tape product was originally manufactured by Ampex and vinyl was originally pressed by CBS. Its releases were initially distributed by Famous Music but shortly after inception was handled by a network of independent distributors throughout the US with wholesale distribution handled by Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corporation via Warner Bros. Records Inc.
