US company that produced the Lyraphone phonograph and Lyric Records from 1917-1921. First records were vertically cut, but the company switched to lateral recording in late 1919. Jacques M. Kohner, the general manager and sales managers of The Lyraphone Company left in early 1921 to organize the Clarion Record Company, makers of several short-lived labels of the early 1920s (e.g. Clarion (7), Cardinal (11), Cleartone Record, Melva (3)). The Lyraphone Company was placed in receivership on October 24, 1921 and did not produce new recordings afterwards.
