Jazz Characters

French Jazz series launched in 2004, curated by André Francis and Jean Schwarz for the label Le Chant Du Monde. Each release in this series focuses on a single performer and consists of 2 CDs with chronologically ordered, historically significant material in a three-fold cardboard wallet sleeve illustrated by Bruno Vacaro. The series consists of 50 entries (see images). Not to be confused with Jazz Characters New Series: this series, launched by the same label in 2014, has 3 CDs per release and uses black-and-white artwork. Deluxe editions of some of these releases (in a tall book digipak format, also with Bruno Vacaro artwork and identical track lists) have been released under the name Le Monde Du Jazz. Note that this series has fewer entries and different numbering. The phrase André Francis & Jean Schwarz Présentent seen at the top of the cover art is also present in the DB as a series, but is more of a catchphrase.
