Titania-Palast, Berlin
Настоящее имя: Titania-Palast, Berlin
Titania-Palast is a traditional cinema located in Berlin's Steglitz-Zehlendorf district, known before the Second World War and into the 1960s well beyond Berlin. Today a multi-venue cinema of same name resides in the iconographic nineteen twenties style building, which has been subdivided to provide space for additional commercial outlets.
After WW II, with most of Berlin's buildings destroyed, and the traditional theater district in the city center occupied by the Soviet Army, Titania-Palast was the only remaining very large venue (with a capacity of almost 2.000 visitors) located in one of the three western sectors of the city which were occupied by US, GB, and French forces). So the movie house of late was frequently used to stage major concerts and theatrical performances during the post war era. In 1951 Titania-Palast hosted the first "Berlinale" (Berlin Film Festival) after the war.
