Defunct; formerly a record label division of the well-known recording studio in New York, NY.
This was the record label division of A&R Recording, an independent studio founded in New York City by Jack Arnold and Phil Ramone. The label was founded in March, 1970. It was distributed through Mercury Records, with tapes duplicated by Ampex.
The label was based in Los Angeles, with many of their artists recording at the New York facility. Ed Barsky was president, and ran operations out of L.A., while owner Phil Ramone held the title of Creative Director.
There is no current info on which company has the A&R Records masters, although UMG has the rights to the Mercury catalog.
