Owl Recording, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that releases recordings of high artistic, educational or historical worth not otherwise available.
Owl's recordings are distributed by Starkland.
Owl has released music from a wide variety of distinguished contemporary composers, including: John Luther Adams, Samuel Barber, Kenton Coe, Charles Eakin, Cecil Effinger, Frederic Goossen, Daniel Gutwein, David Macbride, William Thomas McKinley, Thomas Pasatieri, Vincent Persichetti, George Rochberg, Clare Shore, Morton Subotnick, Richard Toensing, Elizabeth Vercoe, and Iannis Xenakis.
Owl Recording, Inc. was formed in 1974, and in 1976 Owl became the first nonspecialized tax-exempt record label in the United States. Since then it has received support from various sources, such as the National Endowment for the Arts.
Owl Recording, Inc. was previously known as Owl Records.
