Globe Theatre

Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, London that operated from 1909 until 1994. In anticipation of the 1997 opening of the reconstruction of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the South Bank, London, to avoid public confusion, the theatre was renamed the Gielgud Theatre in honour of John Gielgud.
