Glory (4)
Настоящее имя: Glory (4)
Glory Records started out in Miami, Florida, in 1952 as a spiritual/gospel label. It was owned by Henry Stone (so-called "Father of Miami Music" and later owner of the massive TK empire in the 1970s) and Andy Razaf. Among their artists were the Seniorteers, New Lane, the Ford Gospel Stars, the Spiritual Harmonizers, the Southern Gospel Stars, the Miami Soul Stirrers, the Rising Sun Gospel Singers, the Sons of Calvary, the Keys of Heaven, the Gospel Twins, and Reverend A. Johnson.
They sold out to King Records in August, 1953. The artist roster was shifted to King's DeLuxe subsidiary, where singles were issued by the Spiritual Harmonizers, the Gospel Twins, the Sons of Calvary, and Rev. A. Johnson. While in Miami, Glory issued only singles, most or all on 78 rpm. In addition to acquiring the talent roster, Syd Nathan used the Glory nameplate to issue three country/sacred EPs in 1953 using King's longtime country artists.
After a fight with Syd Nathan over the royalties for the million selling "Hearts Of Stone" for the DeLuxe label, all Glory Records master recordings, and publishing rights, along with cash consideration, and future record pressings, reverted to Stone, as noted by BILLBOARD in an article on December 10th, 1955. To quote the article, "DeLuxe Firm, Stone Dissolve
Partnership. "A partnership involving Henry Stone and the De Luxe Records firm was dissolved this week in an amicable settlement. Mutually owned properties were divided between Stone and the King Subsidiary, and Stone is reported to have received some cash considerations. Stone and Deluxe entered into an operation two years ago, known as Crystal Recording Corporation in which both parties owned a half interest, Masters recorded by Stone for the outfit were leased to Deluxe, and these included a number of hits by the Charms, rhythm
and blues group. Under the settlement, Stone gets the original Charms, who will record immediately for his new Chart label. Approximately 200 copyrights which had been deposited in King's Lois Music have been divided equally between Lois and Stone's new Sherlyn Music pubbery. Both firms are affiliated with Broadcast Music, Inc. Stone and Chart Records headquarters are in Miami."
This Glory label is not to be confused with the more famous Glory label established later in New York City (which had hits by the Tarriers and Vince Martin).
