A Finnish commercial radio station, started on March 19, 2001. Plays Finnish pop music only. It's currently owned by Sanoma Media Finland and it's part of Sanoma's Nelonen Media unit. It has taken part in releasing various hit music compilations. In addition, each year it organizes (in association with Himos-lomat Oy) the Suomipop Festival in Jyväskylä.
Radio Suomipop's predecessor was Star FM, which operated from 1999 to 2001. It was owned by Oy P4 Finland, which also owned Groove FM.
In October 2000 Swedish Modern Times Group (which then owned P4 Finland) sold its stations to Metromedia International Group. The new owner changed the company name to Metromedia Finland. On March 19, 2001 Metromedia disbanded Star FM and replaced it with Radio Suomipop There was a competition for listeners to suggest a new name for the station.
In April 2004 Metromedia acquired the whole ownership of Classic Radio. In the same year Metromedia Finland became Metroradio Finland when Irish Communicorp Group acquired it.
In June 2012 Sanoma Entertainment bought the majority of Metroradio Finland Oy. Then Metro FM, Groove FM and Radio Suomipop were moved under Nelonen Media.
