Audio (5)
Настоящее имя: Audio (5)
American monthly Hi-Fi magazine, printed from 1947 to 2000, covered various topics from recording technology to acoustics, psychoacoustics, and the art of listening. Often cited as one of the industry's longest-running publications, Audio descended directly from "Pacific Radio News" (1917; resumed after WWI in 1920–21) and "Radio" magazines (November '21 — February 1947). It changed owners several times, purchased from its original publishers by CBS Inc. in 1979 and subsequently printed by Hachette Filipacchi Médias.
Issued as Audio Engineering for the first seven years, "Audio" rebranded in March 1954, indicating a gradual shift from more technical content towards consumers and hobbyist articles, and to avoid confusion with a peer-reviewed Journal of the Audio Engineering Society (JAES) launched in January '53. The magazine's stellar reputation primarily relied on consumer equipment reviews, dominated by measurements and specifications rather than subjective opinion and promotional hype. Over the years, many renowned industry professionals contributed to "Audio," including Audio Engineering Society members and AES Gold Medal awardees, such as Harry F. Olsen and Edward Tatnall Canby.
