U.S. Record company, 1947 - ca. 1950. This Massachusetts-based company was launched in June 1947 by Fred H. Freeman, who owned the Bal-a-Roue Rollerway in Medford, MA. Early releases featured Hammond organ solos and were marketed to skating-rink operators. By the late 1940s Arthur Freeman, the company's sales manager and field representative, had set up distributors in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and then expanded into the Midwest. Later releases on the Dance Tone label featured conventional pop fare by Gloria Carroll and other obscure regional artists.
