Gotham

Independent record label, active from 1946-1956. Founded in 1946 by Sam Goody and Ivin Ballen in New York City (thus the name Gotham). In 1948, Ballen bought out Goody's share and moved the company to Philadelphia. In May 1950, the label introduced the 45 rpm format, but continued to press 78s as well. In May 1950, Gotham acquired 300 masters from the Miltone Records label. For bootlegs / counterfeits, see Gotham (7).
