The Radio-television of Vojvodina (RTV) began its life as Radio Novi Sad, broadcasting its first program on November 29th, 1949. Television broadcasting under the name Radio-television of Novi Sad (RTNS) began in 1975. The station operated as independent under the state Yugoslav Radio-television (JRT) until the breakup of the SFR Yugoslavia in 1992, when the Radio-television of Serbia (RTS, formerly the Radio-television of Belgrade, RTB) restructured and took complete control of RTNS and the Radio-television of Pristina (RTP (3)). In 1999, the RTNS broadcasting headquarters were destroyed during the NATO aggression on Yugoslavia. The station continued broadcasting as RTNS until 2006, when it separated from RTS, became independent again and started broadcasting under the RTV name.
The station broadcast on one program until the 1992 restructuring - at this point, an entertainment program called NS+ was founded. NS+ ceased to exist during the NATO aggression and was replaced by NS 2 afterwards. RTS NS 1 and RTS NS 2 were replaced by RTV 1 and RTV 2 in 2006.
