Nintendo Co., Ltd. (also known as 任天堂) Video game and toy manufacturer, est. 1889 in Kyoto, Japan. Known for Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid franchises (among others,) as well as console game hardware such as the NES/Famicom, Super NES/Super Famicom, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii, the Game Boy family and Nintendo DS family of handhelds. Prolific developers include Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong), Gunpei Yokoi (Metroid, Game Boy, Virtual Boy, many 1960s and 1970s toys) and Genyo Takeda (Punch Out, StarTropics), and composers Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka (Tetris, Metroid, Kid Icarus) and Koji Kondo (Super Mario Bros. series, Legend of Zelda series).
