CBS Records Malaysia Sdn. Berhad

When EMI ended their partnership of CBS in Malaysia and Singapore in 1981, CBS began its operation in these two countries. In Asia, these follows CBS/Sony that started its operation in Hong Kong in 1978 (10 years after that same label began operation in Japan). The local albums released by CBS in Malaysia uses code of M, MC and MCD, for vinyl, cassette and CD releases, respectively. After it changes its name to Sony Music Entertainment (M) Sdn. Bhd in 1991, this code is retained for all local releases until 1997. Only Ibnor Riza's Meneka Dalam Kesamaran follows the standard album code that CBS and later Sony Music use it internationally. The album is identified by the code 451019 4 for cassette. CBS is also the first record label in Malaysia to release an album by a domestic singer in compact disc in 1988. The album was Kali Pertama by Fairuz Hussein.
