Black Patti

1920s black-owned record label from Chicago, Illinois.
J. Mayo Williams had built his reputation as a talent scout and recording manager for Paramount's race-record series. In 1927, WIlliams founded his own label, which took its name from the 19th century concert artist Sissieretta Jones, who was billed as "The Black Patti". Records were produced for The Chicago Record Co. by Starr Piano Company and were mainly sold by mail order. Only 54 releases were distributed during the label's very short history, between May and September 1927.
