Dooto Records

American record label from Los Angeles, California, which specialized in blues, jazz, doo-wop, pop, gospel and "chitlin' circuit" comedy. For bootlegs and repros for this label, please use Dooto Records (2). Originally founded as Dootone Records by Walter "Dootsie" Williams in the Watts section of Los Angeles in 1951; it underwent a name change in January 1957 to avoid legal action from the similarly-named Duo-Tone Records. Although the label's glory years were in the late 1950s, it survived into the mid-seventies, mainly by repackaging and reissuing Redd Foxx material before finally closing down in 1975.
