For the jazz LP pressings in the 1950’s and 60’s Decca stamped in a straight line - usually 'VMGT' followed by four-digit number, a '1' followed by a letter which is code for the identity of the mastering engineer.
Decca's mastering was usually accomplished at Decca Studios and the Decca engineer IDs (or aliases) can be found in runouts, as listed there.
After Decca's acquisition by PolyGram the plant was closed in 1980 and pressings transferred to Europe.
