Brownswood Recordings
Настоящее имя: Brownswood Recordings
British label started in 2006 by Gilles Peterson to output some artists he felt deserved attention.
The label follows on from the first Brownswood Records imprint which was a side-label of Talkin' Loud (part of Mercury) –probably the most influential label Gilles Peterson has been involved in– which released stuff from Japanese artists in the mid-1990s (more specifically, mainly from the artist United Future Organization).
The label's inspiration comes from the Brownswood Basement sessions that Gilles did every three months or so on his BBC Radio 1 'Worldwide' show. In these sessions he got back to the roots of modern jazz-influenced dancefloor music by playing records (typically strictly vinyl original pressings) that continue to inspire newer musicians and producers today.
Some of these newer artists, musicians, and producers are highlighted on the label, and it serves as an outlet for those who are a bit different or unusual, and who might have been overlooked by most labels, a space to get their work released, plus also serves as home to his Cuban-inspired Gilles Peterson's Havana Cultura Band and Brazilian-inspired Sonzeira projects.
