Soap Records started out as Snap Records in the early parts of 1992 with the release of This Perfect Day's single "This Friendship of Ours". At that time a lot of Swedish bands emerged that played pop with sweet melodies, lots of guitars and an independent attitude. Lars Tengroth and Jonas Sjöström at MNW Records decided to form a new label for these bands. A label with a strong identity, both in the music and with the visual concept. Swedish designer Lars Sundh took care of the graphic concept and did most of the artwork for the label. Lars Tengroth was Label Manager and A&R. Due to legal problems the name of the label had to change in the spring of 1994, after complaints from the German disco band Snap. One letter was altered and the new name was Soap Records.
