Chinese record company, founded in 1954. It became known as the China Record Corporation in 1985. [in Chinese: 中国唱片社]
A descendent of Pathé Phono-Cinéma-Chine which was founded by Frenchman, E. Labansat, in Shanghai in 1908. Renamed Pathé Orient in 1921 when the company expanded and built a new recording studio. In December 1928 the British Columbia Graphophone Company purchased Pathé Frères, Pathé Orient 's French parent company, and took over Pathé Orient 's properties in Shanghai in 1930. Manufacturing plant was named China Record Company Limited , located in the French Concession.
NB:EMI documentation from 1970 states EMI first ventured into China (Shanghai) in 1922.
