Founded by Billboard reporter Bob Rolontz in 1954 as mainly a rhythm & blues label, later adding Soulsides as well. In 1957 it was discontinued and merged with Vik. It was later reactivated for a short time from 1961 to 1965. The brand was later reactivated by RCA in Argentina.

Some titles may have been released in both formats: shellac and vinyl, with respectively prefix cat# 'G-xxxx' for shellac and '4G-xxxx' for 7" vinyls.
