CBS manufacturing & distribution company - established in Spain in 1970 and whose team included executive directors/producers Jorge Álvarez, Tomás Muñoz (3) and José Luis de Carlos. It also distributed a number of foreign labels. Circa 1992 it became Sony Music Entertainment (Spain) S.A.. Impuesto de lujo Nº 7053. This Spanish company may also appear in (p) and (c) on other country releases as "Discos CBS, S. A. España" or "Discos CBS, S. A. (España)"
If in doubt about location, simply use Discos CBS, S.A.
Please be careful identifying labels as there were many reissues using deposito legal from previous editions:
- CBS labels used from 1970 to 1974 were plain orange with "walking eye" logo (examples from 1970 and 1974).
- CBS labels used from late 1974 to 1985 were yellow-orange sunburnst with "pacman" CBS lettering (examples from 1974 and 1985).
- CBS labels used from late 1985 to 1991 were plain red with normal CBS lettering (examples from 1985 and 1990).
- In1991 company changed label from CBS to CBS/Sony (example from 1991).
Following CBS Records International agreements with Philips in 1960 and the launch of the CBS label in Europe, CBS was previously associated in Spain with: Hispavox, S.A. (Oct 1962 - 1966) & Discophon, S.A. (1966 - 1970)
The Discos CBS, S.A., Madrid office was then opened in 1970. This Spanish company continued outsourcing for pressing & metalwork, often importing the latter from CBS in the UK in its formative years. Manufacturing associations with Philips continued with Fonogram, S.A. and COFASA, as well as with plants such as Iberofon, S.A. in the early 70s and Tecnodisco, S.A. in the late 80s. Releases to the Spanish-speaking markets via the CBS entity Discos CBS, S.A. can also be seen in Discos CBS, S.A., Mexico and Discos CBS, S.A., Colombia manufacturers, and may possibly share those markets, which could include Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Israel, Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela - as well as the USA and other CBS entities operating in and to those markets, such as Discos CBS International and Discos CBS brands, or Discos CBS S.A.I.C.F., etc., prior to Sony acquisitions in 1988 and 1991).
