Romanian ethnological research institute founded in 1949. It consists of several sections in the following fields: folkloristics, ethnomusicology, ethno choreology, ethnography, archives.
The Romanian Academy started the first audio-visual folk fieldwork collections in 1910. These collections were gathered in sonorous and visual archives belonging to the Ministry of Cults and Arts (1927) and to the Society of Romanian Composers (UCMR) (1928). Since 1949, the funds of the three institutions entered the Collections belonging to the Institute of Ethnography and Folklore.

1974 to 1990 - Institutul de Cercetări Etnologice și Dialectologice
1990 to present - Institutul de Etnografie și Folclor „Constantin Brăiloiu” (in honour of Constantin Brăiloiu)
