Austin, Texas studio which was located at 308 West 6th Street. Founded and co-owned by recording engineers Jay Aaron Podolnick and Steve Shields (2) from February 1972 to August 1978, when it was purchased by John Ingle (2) and Larson Lundahl, remodeled, and name changed to Pecan Street Studios.
Odyssey was Texas’s first 24 track recording facility. Engineers included Chet Himes, known for recording Christopher Cross at the Odyssey. Other clients included; Jerry Jeff Walker, Steve Miller, Roky Erickson, Jay Aaron, Al Kooper, The Bodysnatchers, Ry Cooder, James Cotton Blues Band, Carole King, The Rockin Devils, Stephen Barber, Willie Nelson, Asleep At The Wheel, Eric Johnson, Mariani, Michael Murphy, B.W. Stevenson Steve Fromholz, Shake Russell, Joe Ely, The Lost Gonzo Band, Bobby Bridger, Bill Carter and the Blame and American Airlines.
While still under construction in 1972, Odyssey was used as a recording site for [m266977], which was credited in the gatefold as "Rapp Cleaner's", but which is referred to by name as "Steve and Jay's Oddyssey [sic] Sound" in Jerry Jeff's liner notes.
