"Upholding the power of culture over the culture of power since 2011" Beacon Sound marches to the off-kilter beat of its own drummer. The Portland-based label primarily releases contemporary music, emphasizing physicality and deep collaboration, while stirring in the occasional reissue. Avoiding the confines of a single genre or vibe (e.g. ‘dark music’), while eschewing standardized design approaches and predictable narratives, the label remains resolutely project-based and artist-centered in its process. Threading needles, connecting dots, facilitating unexpected connections, all with a wry sense of humor – Beacon Sound seeks to create a resilient space for on-the-ground culture while negotiating the recuperative currents of neoliberal capitalism.
