Spoonful
Настоящее имя: Spoonful
It all started in late May 2007. Out of the blue the McCarthy brothers delivered a DJ-set that changed our perception of music forever. A friend wrote afterwards: „...they dropped surfsounds played by Martians, deltablues from the stone-age, Captain Beefheart and gospel dripping with blood.“ „Plus Soul, early funk, rhythm & blues, rock & billy and a few rocksteady tunes“ - I might add. They tied it all together to one mighty groove. Best night I ever had.
Afterwards I demanded a mix-CD, which took three months to materialize (but at least they sent 3 CDs then). In the meantime four of us decksharks compiled a CD each of tunes we would have played, if we would have been behind the decks with them that night. That was the birth of the Spoonful series – a 6-CD-box-set with a 16 page booklet all packaged in a tin can.
Things never came to a stop. We kept putting CDs together whenever we felt like it. Usually four out of a group of about ten friends, collectors and (part time) DJs were allowed 20 minutes each to compile an 80 minute disc – stylistically varied, but within the Spoonful sound universe (see above). Over the years we also did quite a few specials - Ska/Rocksteady/early Reggae Special (#16.1, 16.2, 25, 51), Mambo meets R&B (33, 36, 44), Rockin' Blues (43), Tittyshaker/Mambos/Popcorn/Exotica (41, 45), Sin City Jukebox (46, 47, 48, 49, 52), Elvis (30), Garage Punk (34), Spoonful Hits (15, 35), Popcorn (26) etc.
The main guideline was: it should make people wanna dance.
