Thin Wrist Recordings is an American independent record label based in Los Angeles, California, and launched in 1999 by experimental guitarist Peter Kolovos. Thin Wrist started as a private press, mostly releasing music by Peter's trio Open City and various closely related projects: Burning Star Core, one of the bands of his early collaborator, C. Spencer Yeh, or the first two albums by The Curtains, in which Open City's drummer Andrew Maxwell used to play in 2002-04. Peter Kolovos released his debut solo albums on the label: New Bodies LP (2009) and Black Colors 3x12" in 2013. Eventually, the Thin Wrist roster expanded beyond Peter's direct associates, now covering a broader scope of artists "pushing the bounds of musical forms." The label lists 24 albums in the catalog with alphabetized catalog numbers (excluding deleted positions and limited edition offerings).
Thin Wrist originally released music mostly on vinyl, with occasional CD-R and cassette limited editions. In 2002, Kolovos also began producing factory-pressed CDs, starting with Fly Bys by The Curtains and Open City's third album The Birth Of Cruel. Since then, some releases have been available as CD/LP pressings, and Thin Wrist produced a few limited edition tapes and 10" acetates.
In Spring 2014, Peter Kolovos began working with Steve Lowenthal's label Vin Du Select Qualitite, continuing its 'VDSQ - Solo Acoustic' series with Volumes Seven to Ten co-released jointly by VDSQ/Thin Wrist. In 2015, Kolovos started his second record company venture, Black Editions, dedicated to producing definitive vinyl reissues from the legendary P.S.F. Records in Japan. Subsequently, Kolovos established Black Editions Group company with all three labels as its subsidiaries, serving as the Creative and Production Director. Lowenthal is responsible for Sales Distribution and Promotions and remains VDSQ's creative director.
