New Jazz Meeting

Free jazz festival held since 1966. Originally the festival's name was 'Free Jazz Meeting Baden-Baden' until 1971. In 1972 there was no 'Free Jazz Meeting Baden-Baden' . Joachim E. Berendt, the festival's producer was organising and leading a Jazz festival for the 1972 Olympic games in Munich, so the festival's funds were redirected to Munich. From 1973 the name was changed to 'New Jazz Meeting Baden-Baden' up to 1986. In 1989 it was coined simply 'New Jazz Meeting' up to 1994. Since 1996 it has the still used header 'SWF New Jazz Meeting' - except 1999 when there was no festival staged.
