Tempo Record Co. Of America

US record company, operating the Tempo (7) and Theme labels in the 1940s and 1950s. It was headquartered in Hollywood, Cal., with offices in Pennsylvania, New York and Georgia in the 1940s. The company was established and run by Irving Fogel. Tempo's roster included jazz harpist Robert Maxwell, cornetist Doc Evans, clarinetist Sid Phillips, Novachord virtuoso Lloyd Sloop, violinist Joe Venuti, Hammond organist Herb Kern, and pianist Ben Light. Tempo recorded the version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" (by Brother Bones) that was used as the theme song for the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team.
