Direct Master: 16 Track Audiophile Recording
The pressing for the Lab Series has been developed by CBS Records. The record is made from 100% virgin vinyl and requires a significantly longer pressing cycle than standard discs. The Lab Series pressing weighs between 125 and 128 grams, which is substantially heaver than regular discs. CBS incorporates a 100% inspection procedure to insure the highest quality available.
The lacquers are cut from the first generation mixed down tape on a Scully lathe which features the CBS Discomputer®. This discomputer (via a preview head on the MCI tape mastering deck) automatically determines the grooves depth and width. The lathe features the aluminum coil helium cooled Westrex 3D2AH cutting head.
