Founded in Montréal in 1989 by Jean-François Denis and Claude Schryer — directed by Jean-François Denis since 1991 — YMX média (and its sister YUL média) is a music publisher specialized in electroacoustic music, acousmatic music, and musique concrète. The label empreintes DIGITALes, founded in parallel, became the main conduit for the works we publish. Sound recording (in the form of the compact disc, DVD, sound file…) is for electroacoustics what sheet music is for instrumental music. (Since 1990, two others labels — SONARt and No Type — were formed to serve others specialized music genres.) The music publisher YMX média (member of SOCAN and SODRAC; member of PMPA) along with the producer of empreintes DIGITALes, SONART, and No Type, complement each other and form a coherent core to better and quickly serve the dissemination of its works.
