British record company set up in 1959 by husband and wife Rita and Benny Izons. Both were Jewish immigrants and anglicised their surname to King. The had a record shop at 282 Stamford Hill, London N16 for 25 years during which time they also ran a chaotic extended family of records labels:
King Records (4) - Set up in 1964. Carried all types of music - pop, soul, Jamaican, rock'n'roll and surf music
R&B (2) - Active 1963-1965. Mostly ska.
Ska Beat - Active 1965-1967. Ska and rocksteady music. The same number series as the R&B label.
Port-O-Jam - Set up in 1964.
Prima Magnagroove - Set up in 1964. Devoted to the product of the US Prima label owned by Italian-American singer Louis Prima
R&B Discs - Set up in 1965. Releases American blues and R&B, though branching out into pop later in its run.
Giant (2) - Active 1967-1968. The successor to Ska Beat, and mainly a rocksteady label.
Caltone - Active 1967-1968. Mainly rocksteady.
Jolly (2) - Active 1968-1969. Rocksteady and reggae releases.
Domain (2) - Set up in 1968.
Sound System Recordings - Set up in 1969. Just released five singles.
Moodisc Records - Active 1971-1972. Mostly work from Harry Mudie. The label also holds Jamaican and American releases.
Hillcrest Records - Active 1971-1972.
