International Talking Machine Co. m.b.H.

German record company and factory, creator of the Odeon label. Registered on October 27, 1903 by Frederick Marion Prescott, ex-director of International Zonophone Company, who left the company alongside chief engineers and employees after it's buyout by Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd.. Odeon records were distributed by Kalliope Musikwerke A.-G. until December 31, 1904 where Odeon began to branch out. In the same year, Odeon published the first double-sided 78RPMs in Germany Prescott's strategy was usage of large capital to build Odeon factories in Vienna, Austria and London, UK coupled with sending engineers on international recording missions. By 1910, Odeon's European repertoire numbered in the 10000s while much older companies numbered on 2000s. In 1904 in Brazil, Fred Figner of Casa Edison, Rio De Janeiro signs a deal for the pressing of Brazilian recordings under Odeon. In 1913 this deals transforms into the Fábrica Odeon / International Talking Machine Co. Ltd. In the mid 00s International Talking Machine signed deal for Italian label Fonotipia, where the record company Società Italiana Di Fonotipia was provided with a studio and engineers for their productions while International held exclusive pressing and sales rights for Fonotipia records. The company was acquired among others by Carl Lindström A.-G. in 1913. Most of its deals and acquisitions survived it. The Berlin factory, rechristened "International Talking Machine Co. m.b.H. Odeon-Werke" pressed shellacs for Lindström AG franchises in central Europe and Latin America, specifically Brazil and Argentina where a large number of short-lived Carl Lindström A.-G. and independent labels had surfaced.
