Stax Recording Studios
Настоящее имя: Stax Recording Studios
Recording studio in Memphis, Tennesse related to the Stax label.
Open in 1960 by Jim Stewart with substantial contribution of his sister Estelle Axton,
who bought what was previously a movie theatre on McLemore Avenue ,
converting it into a recording studio in a short time.
The studio was active till 1975, year in which Stax had to close for bankruptcy.
The building was razed in 1989 and historical marker was dedicated in June of 1991.
The lot where Stax once stood remained empty till 2003, when the Soulsville Foundation,
a group of community leaders, philanthropists and former Stax employees,
financed the construction of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music
which still occupies the area today.
