Hotel located at Karl Johans gate in Oslo, Norway. Founded in 1874, it was a hotspot for the cultural and intellectual elite in Kristiania (then name of Oslo) around the turn of the century, with its cafe having regulars such as Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Munch.
In December of 1904 it was the location of the first ever commercial gramophone recordings held in Norway, under the direction of The Gramophone Company who had sent over their own engineers from England. 87 sides were recorded during the course of 3-4 days, 14 of which were with Adolf Østbye.
