The Coolidge Auditorium, opened in 1925, is a performance venue for the Music Division at the Library of Congress. Located on the first floor of the Thomas Jefferson Building, the auditorium was renovated from 1988 to 1997 and reopened in 1997. The Coolidge Auditorium is used for a variety of music performances and lectures sponsored by the Library of Congress.
The oldest of the three United States Library of Congress buildings, the Thomas Jefferson Building was built between 1890 and 1897. It was originally known as the Library of Congress Building and is located on First Street SE, between Independence Avenue and East Capitol Street in Washington, D.C. The Beaux-Arts style building is known for its neoclassic facade and elaborately decorated interior.
