Monument Recording Studio

AKA Monument Studio located in Nashville, Tennessee. Opened by Fred Foster in 1969 after closing his Fred Foster Sound Studio due to a building demolition — an inconvenient preventative to good recording sessions — Monument had an immediate impact on the Nashville recording community. Chief engineer Tommy Strong recorded three hits for Sammi Smith on the Mega label: Help Me Make It Through The Night, Then You Walk In and For the Kids. On Monument's early 16-track recorder Roger Miller recorded his version of Me and Bobby McGee for Mercury; many tunes were recorded there for the house Monument label, as well. In 1975, the studio was purchased by Chip Young and renamed Young 'Un Sound, Nashville. Engineers known to have worked here: Tommy Strong Mort Thomasson Paul Richmond (2)
