German children's and young readers' book publisher founded 25th April 1953 in Hamburg by Per Hjald Carlsen as subsidiary company of his Danish Forlaget Carlsen A/S. In 1954 Carlsen published the first "Pixi-Bücher" in the format of 10 × 10 cm. In 1967 the publishing house started his comic book program with the German edition of Hergé's "Tim und Struppi" ("Les Aventures De Tintin"). Today Carlsen is one of Germany's the three largest comic book publishers. The biggest success ever was the German edition of Joanne K. Rowling's Harry Potter fantasy series.
