German record company, founded May 1973 by RCA GmbH and TELDEC »Telefunken-Decca« Schallplatten GmbH as a joint venture. Prior to 1973 German RCA releases were manufactured and distributed by TELDEC »Telefunken-Decca« Schallplatten GmbH. They were still manufactured at TELDEC-Press GmbH until 1985 when, during the formation of RCA/Ariola-Ariola/RCA venture, manufacturing was completely transferred to Ariola's subsidiary Sonopress. In 1977, RCA bought TELDEC's shares and became the only owner. RCA Schallplatten GmbH eventually fused into BMG Ariola in 1987, thereafter only appearing as ℗ holder on compilations. Its successor, under BMG Ariola ownership, was named BMG Ariola Hamburg GmbH.
Please note: TELDEC was slow in implementing the change in 1973. The new RCA Schallplatten GmbH credit appeared first on sleeves. As late as 1974, maybe even till 1975 the old TELDEC »Telefunken-Decca« Schallplatten GmbH credit can be found on label rims of German RCA releases.
