Crystal Ballroom
Настоящее имя: Crystal Ballroom
West Coast concert & dance venue.
The venue featured a number of early 1960s acts, booked by promoter Charles Sullivan - who originally held the lease on Fillmore Auditorium before Bill Graham (2)'s promotions took place there. When Sullivan retired in 1965 the Crystal venue remained unused through 1966. Whitey Davis, who previously worked at the Avalon Ballroom & managed Caffe Expresso, took up the Crystal Ballroom lease in January 1967 in partnership with L.A. club manager Michael Magaurn. The duo began booking local acts, as well as bands such as Grateful Dead.
Portland's local council forced closure of the venue in July 1968. The building laid dormant until 1997, when it was re-opened by McMenamins, featuring a bar/restaurant on the first floor, a brewery and a new dance floor on the second floor, with the restored main ballroom on the third floor. The ballroom still retains its original (and now unique) 'floating' dance-floor, built in the 1920s.
