Sony Music history in Malaysia began in 1981/1982 under the CBS label. In 1991, it was renamed Sony Music Entertainment (M) Sdn. Bhd. Please note: For albums that did not bear the seven digit code (example : ###### #): Note that albums released until 1997 for local artists or some foreign artists did not use the seven digit code. Instead: M - vinyl LP MC - cassette MCD - CD And also the release barcode usually starts with 9 557011 #### # #. The first four digits are album code, for example (MCD 235) means 0235. The last two numbers, are depends on which format you owned, 2 for CD and 4 for cassette and the other one is for the check digit. For example : 9 557011 970325 Note: This barcode was used for releases between 1995 to 1997 only. From 1998 onwards until 2004, the international standard album code and barcode, which was ###### # and 5 0997## ###### are used in almost all album released in Malaysia, and the usage of the last two digits, which was format code and the check digit was retained.
