Leo Lab was a Leo Records' sub-label, active between 1994 and 2001, which released over 70 albums of radical, innovative music by uprising musicians – unlike main imprint, dedicated to well-established and universally acclaimed artists. Acting as an incubator for young talent, Leo Lab saw many of its artists, such as Collective 4tet, Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, Joachim Gies, and Carolyn Hume & Paul May duo, eventually graduating to Leo Records. Other laboratory's alumni, including Satoko Fujii with her husband Natsuki Tamura and Orchestra NY, Mat Maneri and his father's Joe Maneri Quartet, released follow-up albums on ECM Records, hatOLOGY and other prominent labels. Leo Lab also featured several works by contemporary Russian and Lithuanian artists: Misha Feigin, Moscow Composers Orchestra, Sa-Zna – a duo between Richard Norvila and Alexander Menshagin, Vladimir Miller, Arkady Gotesman, Vitas Pilibavičius, AMA Jazz quartet.
