Lollapalooza

US-music festival for Alternative Rock-, Punkrock- and Rap-bands. Started in 1991, Lollopalooza was originally planed by Perry Farrell as a continent-wide farewell-tour for his band Jane's Addiction and turned out into a festival with 9 bands playing 26 shows in 19 different US-cities plus Toronto, Canada (amongst others 3 nights at the Irvine Meadows, Irvine, CA). First years lineup featured Butthole Surfers, Fishbone, Ice-T + Body Count (2), Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Rollins Band, Siouxsie & The Banshees and Violent Femmes playing shows between 18th of July and 28th of August 1991. The tour-concept was carried on over the years 1992 to 2003. Since 2005 Lollopalooza remains as only one festival at Grant Park, Chicago, IL. The name of the festival has been choosen by founder Perry Farrell after he saw a The Three Stooges-movie in which the actor Moe Howard used that word.
