First Avenue

Legendary nightclub/music venue in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, operating under this name since New Year's Eve, 1981. Full name is First Avenue & 7th St Entry. Also referred to as: - 1st Avenue - First Ave. - The Mainroom Located at the intersection of First Avenue North and South Seventh Street in a building originally built in 1937 as a Greyhound bus depot. In operation as a music venue since 1970, originally as The Depot (4), then as Uncle Sam's from July 1972 to 1979, then as "Sam's" in 1979, and renamed First Avenue on New Year's Eve 1981. Known for scenes in the motion picture Purple Rain. Around the corner, the same building also houses 7th Street Entry, also known as "The Entry."
