Canadian record company. They started out as a publishing and sheet music company in the 1930s. They became one of the first publishers to focus on Canadian talent by securing the Canadian rights to Hank Snow material from Hill & Range in the 1940s. They eventually moved into manufacturing and distribution and founded Dominion in 1950.
In 1969 CMS purchased publisher Waterless Melon Music and founded two publishing subsidiaries, Crown-Vetch Music Ltd. (CAPAC) and Time Being Music Co. (BMI). In 1969 they signed an Australian distribution deal for their Dominion label with W & G Records Pty. Ltd. and in 1970 they signed deal another for UK distribution with Tribune Records Ltd..
In late 1971 owner and president Thomas St. Clair Low sold the company to longtime employee Terry Regan. In 1974 Regan sold the company to an investment group headed by Douglas Chesebrough and Paul Chesebrough. The Chesebrough group announced intention to form three new labels (Rejoice, Hayride, and Fairy Tale Music) and a new publishing subsidiary (Satisfied Music Corporation).
