Domino records was formed by a group of eleven professionals in the state capitol of Texas, Austin, in 1957. They met at a class that future partner Jane Bowers was teaching called "How To Market A Song." At the time, Bowers ran a small Texas label called Trinity that had artists like Bobby Doyle And Tejanos on it. Eventually housed on the first floor of a two story building above a drug store, the Spades were the first group they signed to the label. They also formed their own publishing company called Balcones Music, named after the Balcones fault that runs through the state. After the Slades, several others were added before the label folded around 1961. They issued one LP by poet J. Frank Dobie. Domino records was small in size and resources, but was still able to get radio play for many of their singles. They lacked good distribution, so many titles stayed local. - http://www.colorradio.com/domino_records.html
