Also appears as "Discos R.G.E. Ltda.". Brazilian record company and former owner of RGE, Som Maior and Premier (2) labels. Also named as RGE Discos Ltda. on releases. Rádio Gravações Especializadas (RGE, roughly in English: Radio Recordings Specialized) Records was founded in 1947 by José Scatena. The name of the label was given by the advertiser João Dória. At that time, São Paulo did not have recording studios and it was necessary to travel to Rio de Janeiro to burn them. The Studio had the best technology available, leading Roberto Côrte Real, director of Columbia Brazilian branch suggesting that Scatena twist it in a label. In 1965 the company were acquired by Fermata and merged into Discos RGE/Fermata Ltda.. Splitted on mid 70's, renamed Comercial Fonográfica Rge Ltda. The company also distributed foreign labels in Brazil, such as: 20th Fox Records (since 1960), Pick (2), Barclay, Dot Records, Infinity Records (2) and joined with foreign labels to create Young and RGE Dot
