Jazz Heritage Series

American MCA Records / Decca series. See also: Jazz Heritage (3) (French) and Decca Jazz Heritage Series; many issues from both series were reissued in this series. Initial release of 38 titles (MCA-1300 to MCA-1337) was in November 1980, as reported in Billboard dated 22nd November 1980, page 60. 10 more titles (MCA-1338 to MCA-1350, with no releases for MCA-1340 to MCA-1342) were to be released in January 1982, as reported in Billboard dated 5th January 1982, page 32. Further titles, most likely up to MCA-1360, were released in October/November 1982. The last three in this sequence, MCA-1358 to MCA-1360, were by Duke Ellington, and were reissues of MCA-2075 through MCA-2077; these were listed and reviewed in Billboard in October/November 1982 under those latter numbers, but that was probably erroneous, and most likely due to MCA's practice of stamping new catalogue numbers on the front of existing covers. This site shows entries for MCA-1358 to MCA-1360 with barcodes, which MCA didn't start using until January 1982. The series eventually reached MCA-1380 in 1983; this is the last number that appears in this database, and also the last number listed for the series in MCA's September 1986 catalogue.
